I've been in this role for nearly two years. I served in this role for two years before being hired in my current position, interim Senior Dean of College Planning & Institutional Effectiveness. My first administrative role was interim dean of Arts, Languages, and Communication at Grossmont College, where I taught composition for 17 years. Soon after graduating from the program, I was hired in my first of two interim administrative roles. My name is Joan Ahrens, and I completed SDSU's EdD program in Community College Leadership in 2018. His research focus was based on Garrison et al.’s work seeking to understand the impact of the online student educational experience and persistence. Joseph Allen is a member of the Infini-8 cohort (2014). Joseph Allen, Ed.D., Vice-President | j | Palomar College As a former foster youth, Poppy’s authentic voice and belief in the transformative power of education is informed by her lived experience. Poppy’s work has focused on improving access, retention, and graduation of students with disabilities, and low-income, first-generation students. Embracing a trauma informed, equity minded approach to her work, she demonstrates her commitment to continuous growth as a practitioner and to reimagining systems to better serve the whole student. A strengths-focused educational counselor, instructor, and administrator, Poppy has served San Diego area community colleges and universities for nearly 30 years. She serves as Director, Disability Support Programs and Services in the San Diego Community College District. The Alumni Group strives to lead the professional learning, community building, and access to research for equity-minded community college leaders in San Diego through collaboration with the CCLEAD program, community partners, and higher education leaders to increase student success outcomes.Ī proud member of La Familia, the 2015 CC LEAD cohort, Poppy’s research focused on the success factors for foster youth college graduates. It recruits students for the CCLEAD program, and facilitates social networking and professional learning opportunities for higher education leaders. The Alumni Group is the connection between the CCLEAD program, alumni, and the community. The mission of the SDSU CCLEAD Alumni Group is to build and foster a community of equity-minded leaders that engage in inquiry-based decision making in order to increase equitable student outcomes for community college students. ![]()
